Description
Sausalito is a two-piece set comprising a deep emerald printed silk kaftan and a cigarette trouser, with a gold leaf belt included. The kaftan is the defining piece — a deep V-neckline with gold lace trim running from the collar to the hem along the center front opening. The sleeves are long and voluminous, gathering at the wrist into an embellished cuff. The kaftan falls to the floor with a slight flare.
The silk carries a tonal jacquard-style print across its full surface — a pattern of geometric and botanical motifs worked in the same deep emerald so the print reads as texture rather than color contrast. At the hem, the kaftan shifts into a contrasting band of red and ivory with its own border pattern, which gives the base of the piece a different register from the body above it.
The cigarette trouser is a slim, straight-cut pant in ivory or cream that is visible at the ankle beneath the kaftan. The trouser reads as a finishing detail rather than a featured piece — it provides the clean line at the bottom of the silhouette that the kaftan's floor-length hem would otherwise obscure.
The gold leaf belt is worn at the waist to define the silhouette when desired. Without it, the kaftan falls freely and reads as a more relaxed garment. With it, the same piece becomes more formal. The belt is the piece's only adjustable element and it changes the look significantly depending on how the occasion calls for it.
Named for Sausalito, California — a harbor town across the bay from San Francisco, lush and verdant, where the architecture is European and the light is Northern Californian. Deep green everywhere you look.

Care
- Cleaning Dry clean only for the kaftan and trouser. The gold lace trim and embellished cuffs require professional handling. The gold belt can be wiped with a dry cloth — do not submerge in water.
- Storage Hang the kaftan on a wide padded hanger — it is floor-length and will crease badly if folded. Store the trouser on a separate hanger or folded. Store the belt separately to prevent it from catching on the silk surface.
- Steaming Steam the kaftan from the reverse side on a low setting, 15 cm from the fabric. The gold lace trim at the center front can be steamed very lightly from the reverse side — do not apply direct steam to the gold lace as it can tarnish. The trouser can be steamed directly on a low setting.
- Ironing Press the kaftan on the reverse side with a pressing cloth on the lowest silk setting, avoiding the lace trim and embellished cuffs. The cigarette trouser presses well on the reverse side with a pressing cloth — create a clean center crease by pressing in a single stroke from waistband to hem.

Measurements
Because our pieces are cut, stitched, and finished by hand, measurements may vary slightly from one garment to another. A variation of up to ±2 inches falls within our accepted tolerance.
No two handmade pieces will ever be entirely identical. We would not want them to be.
Make it Modest
Adds full-sleeve lining, inner layering beneath any sheer fabric, and an extended slip through the midriff, so the piece stays fully covered without changing its silhouette or design.
