Description
La Jolla is a two-piece set comprising a printed silk short kurta and a cream silk bootcut trouser. The kurta is in mint silk with a rust and coral geometric-botanical print — the pattern combines structured geometric lines with organic floral motifs, so the print reads differently depending on how far away you are from it. Up close the geometry is apparent. From a distance it reads as botanical warmth against a cool mint ground.
The neckline has a round shape with embellishment at the collar edge. The sleeves are three-quarter length. At the back of the kurta, a cutout detail is placed between the shoulder blades — a clean geometric opening that reveals the skin beneath. The cutout is the kind of detail that the wearer notices more than anyone else, which places it squarely in the Rumor design philosophy regardless of which collection it belongs to.
The hem of the kurta carries a border detail — a defined band in a contrasting print that marks the bottom of the piece. The bootcut trouser is in cream silk, straight through the hip and thigh and widening slightly from the knee. The cream trouser and the mint kurta together create the La Jolla palette — coastal, warm, specific to that particular coast.
Named for La Jolla, California — a coastal village north of San Diego where the water is the clearest shade of teal and the architecture is terracotta and white. The palette of the piece comes directly from that specific coast.

Care
- Cleaning Dry clean only for both pieces. Printed silk requires professional cleaning to preserve color registration, particularly at the border detail where two different print areas meet.
- Storage Hang both pieces on padded hangers. The back cutout area of the kurta should not be folded — crease marks across the cutout edge are difficult to remove.
- Steaming Steam the kurta from the reverse side on a low setting, 15 cm from the fabric. Steam carefully around the back cutout — the edges of the cutout are finished and should not be distorted by direct steam at close range. The cream bootcut trouser can be steamed directly on a low setting — cream silk is forgiving of light steam on the right side.
- Ironing Press the silk kurta on the reverse side with a pressing cloth on the lowest silk setting. Press carefully around the cutout — do not press directly over the finished cutout edges. The cotton bootcut trouser tolerates more heat than silk and presses cleanly on the reverse side with a pressing cloth on a medium setting. Create the bootcut flare by pressing from mid-thigh downward in a single stroke.

These are inherent to the material and a quiet signature of its authenticity. We believe the beauty of something made by hand lies, in part, in the evidence that a hand was there.
Measurements
Because our pieces are cut, stitched, and finished by hand, measurements may vary slightly from one garment to another. A variation of up to ±2 inches falls within our accepted tolerance.
No two handmade pieces will ever be entirely identical. We would not want them to be.
Make it Modest
Adds full-sleeve lining, inner layering beneath any sheer fabric, and an extended slip through the midriff, so the piece stays fully covered without changing its silhouette or design.
